Pete is equipped with a medical examination room, confidential counseling room which includes telemedicine capabilities, a nursing station, blood draw and an education area. Pete is fully equipped to ensure accessibility and provision of an array of medical and behavioral health services to include prevention, screening, crisis response and treatment intervention.

In partnership with Region V Office of Public Health, Pete is also available for use for public health community outreach related to infectious disease testing and vaccinations, HIV & STD testing, education and counseling, opioid use prevention and treatment, including the dissemination of NARCAN.

Additionally, Pete will be used to provide prevention and treatment services to individuals residing in rural areas, with limited transportation options, the homeless population, and post-disaster response.

ImCal’s Mobile Emergency Response and Outreach Unit was named for Pete Manena, who served as the Office for Addictive Disorders Regional Administrator for the SWLA Community prior to his retirement in 2002.

During Pete’s tenure, he ensured access to behavioral health services was equal for all individuals, with particular emphasis on the uninsured and those who reside in rural areas. Pete was instrumental in the opening of Briscoe Treatment Center, the only state-funded inpatient substance abuse facility in the SWLA 5-parish area, as well as the creation of outpatient addictive disorders treatment clinics in underserved areas such as Beauregard, Allen and Jeff Davis parishes. Toward the end of his career, Pete was a forerunner in the integration of addiction and mental health treatment services with the concept of treating the whole person. Our community lost Pete Manena in 2006 to cancer, but his impact on the SWLA community continues to this day.
